Question on Parishes ??
« on: Monday 27 December 04 20:34 UTC (UK) »

One thing that a North American like me finds confusing about the civics of Ireland is the parish system.  Were the parishes listed above civil parishes, church parishes, or both? Are there still civil parishes in Ireland.  In Canada, we have provinces and counties, with municipalities within the counties.  Parishes refer only to Anglican and Catholic religious parishes.  It takes me awhile to "get my head around" the parish system in the civil sense.  Smiley

Hi,

This may assist you in understanding the system.
The Parishes of Co. Cavan which you will find at the end of this board may also be of assistance.
