I'd be very grateful for information on parents / siblings of Joseph Joyce SAUNDERS (b c1857 St Neots) and his younger brother George W SAUNDERS (no further info). Many thanks.

Thanks so much! As long as I have the right Joseph, then this is quite probably his family.
I have the 1881 census details for this family and it shows George W aged 8. Joseph appears in Hertfordshire in 1881 as a lodger, which isn't very helpful. I couldn't find George on the 1901 census but I know he was living in the 1940s.

Hello again,

Couldn't find George in 1871 but in 1891 there is:

George Saunders, 18, Single, Assistant, occupation appears to be Baker, b. St Neots Hunts.  Living 105 Cooke? Road, Bedford with a Charles Eagles (he is a Baker) and family.

RG12/1248
Folio:    20
Page:    34

Not sure if that helps.

Thanks for that but you're right - it probably doesn't help! I have just learned that George W SAUNDERS spent many years in the Army, much of the time in India, so that may be why I can't place him on the 1901 census. Unless he just went on to another no-clues-there job!

The 1871 census has given me so many more family members and much more information and I am very grateful. I now have a few more avenues to explore and I always hoped there were more siblings.
