what happens when i only have a county of birth
« on: Sunday 10 April 05 22:38 UTC (UK) »

Hi all

I am a bit stumped here as I have my Patrick Grady born about 1834 in Kerry, Ireland. I got off his death cert that he was born in Talbot in Kerry but there does not seem to be a place  called Talbot in the county of Kerry.

If I only have a county can I check anywhere for his records?

He married a Julia Hennessey in approx 1860 and then came to Oz in 1860-61 to WA

His parents were John Grady and Catherine Healy.

Hoping someone can throw some ideas my way.

Many thanks
Troods

Hi Troods,

http://www.seanruad.com/ - Here's a very useful item. IreAtlas Townland Search.
Talbot does not seem to be there but your choices may be Tawlaght or Tarbert.

You'll get full details of these two places in the URL . Enter letters Ta in Townland - search method - at the beginning and Co. Kerry. You should then have enough information to find some of your ancestors in Griffiths Valuations of Ireland. These are not a census but do mention the head of the household.

Best Wishes,  Christopher
