The RootsChatter's name in the SIT is a link to "Send a PM to this Chatter".
A suggestion has been made, to go to the Chatter's profile instead, and decide there, whether to send a PM
It's easy enough to do, but it will have to be the same for everybody, so let me know, what you prefer.
Yours etc, The SIT

Hiya Sir Bob!!! Creator of the SIT
I voted for "Don't Care" although I do really I should say I "Don't Mind", as either way is helpful.
I'm just grateful to you for doing the SIT for all us Rootschatters

I do care, but personally don't mind.
I think maybe profile is better as it will show straight away if the person is an active member (from last active date) a bit of expectation management?

Pam,
I agree with you; Profile also gives me "last posts ..." so I can see if this is a "serious searcher" or a "light-sided lightweight"
to the rest,
If I hear anymore references to Lord, Sir, etc, I shall remind you of my (tenuous, ---- tenuous ? that's exagerating !) link to King David and demand the titles in future

Hi Llwyd,
Not sure I understand what you mean?
This is a poll about how the Surname Interests Table should work not a method of monitoring anyone?
Regards, Pam

Hi,
I would agree with Pam.
I too look at profiles as I don't plan to spend a heap of time for someone who asks for loads of lookups and gives nothing back.
I know we don't all have access to the resources and it is great to help, but I like to think of this as a community where we all share with a bit of give and take.

Hi everyone,
I have voted for profile first as you can then easily send a pm (if you like what you see ) whereas it doesn't work the other way around or am I having a dumber than usual day
Trystan's idea is good as well but would that involve a lot of work? Unfortunately I know nothing of how you clever people do these things...I'm just extremely appreciative.
Best wishes
Debbie

I've been a bit misunderstood I think
I certainly didn't mean what people post whether it is questions or answers I just meant if a user had actually visited the site recently.
This site would be very very dull if we didn't have an equal number of queries to help.
NOBODY should be being judgemental about anyone else!
Do I sound like a teacher? I always wanted to be one - it's just the kids I can't stand!
Heyho back to the thread.
I want to change my vote to profile! Now that I've PM'd a few people I definitely want to go to profile first. Though I like Trystan's suggestion of a choice.

Hi All,
It's just about Neck-'n-Neck !!
so I think Trystan's idea is a MUST !
How about this for an idea (please slap me if this is totally stupid)
If say you find somebody with the same surname interest, their username is "cousin" (for example), and then you click on "cousin", it then takes you to a page with three options:
See other surname interests of this user See the profile of this user Send a personal message to this user
Trystan's idea is good as well but would that involve a lot of work? Unfortunately I know nothing of how you clever people do these things...I'm just extremely appreciative. Thanks, DebbieDee ! Us "clever people" will now go and put our thinking caps on and, er, .... go and have a think !
regards, the SIT

Well, i am a newer member...and you guys have been absolutely fant...tastic to me, and have really helped me find some even more fantastic leads. just on the ...don't feel like helping people that don't help back, my 2 cents worth, but some people arn't able to help back. but just for the record i have orders census CD's of yorkshire because i feel guilty. so soon i shall be transcribing away and hopefully be able to give someting back.
blabh blah... ok its early in the morning here and i'm only half way through my first cup of coffee so i'll look at this post later and need to ask your forgivness.
by the way. i think it should go to personal profile. that wa you can see what other names people are looking for and how active they are....)

ohhh... i have just read other peoples posts and have seen what you guys have been talking about. i was not refering in the least tp people getting snarky about people asking lots of questions. i was just saying that i feel reeeealy guilty about asking lots of questions. (which is one reason why i've ordered some census records to transcribe....)
no offence meant sarah
