In the 1861 census, I have ancestors living in Hesleyside House (Alnwick?) - a farmer (200 acres) employing 3 men. Can anyone let me know where I can find details of the House? (I can find lots online about the HALL, but not about the HOUSE!)
Hesleyside Hall is about 2 miles due west from Bellingham, in south west Northumberland ( nearly 40 miles fromn Alnwick ! )
The Charlton family who were "lords of the manor" lived there, village of Charlton named after them
Pigot's Trade Directory of 1834, covering Bellingham, shows a miller, James Turnbull, living at Hesley Side Mill.
Also under "Miscellaneous" there was John Stephenson, a gardener at Hesley Side.
The Catholic Church of St Oswald was also at Hesleyside.
To see these details go to >communities.northumberland.gov.uk<
Choose "Bellingham"
Then choose "Printed Material" from left hand menu, and click on Pigots Trade Directory....
Unfortunately the " Ordnance Maps" of Bellingham, are just not big enough to take in Hesleyside, to see any trace of a "Hesleyside House"
