Hi there, I am looking for knowles of London, a Lydia Ellen Knowles and her mother was Alice ? (I don't know her last name or the fathers name). Cheers jwhite

sorry but as far as l know all our Knowles came from Hertfordshire but will keep a look out for your Lydia in london. Rita

Hi l don't know if this is of any help to you but on 1831 census for Hackney London there is a John Knowles he is a chaff cutter afraid it did not give anymore details but l have all the census for london so will see what l can find for you.

hi found this for you Lydia Ellen Knowles born 1 Sept 1860 Islington married William Samway March 1879 Islington Died 1 Sept 1903 St George Hanover Square
Lydia and William had a son Frank Leslie Samway 15 Dec 1895 St George Hanover Square
William Samway born 1 Dec 1844 at Biggleswade died 1 June 1900 St George Hanover Square

Hi Rita, Wow, that is the people I'm tracing!!  Thanks. I went to the LDS family history library last night and the 1861 census is on line now and I found Lydia's father. It is Frederick W Knowles. I looked on Ancestry.com and the only marriage to an Alice I could see, puts the marriage the year the second child was born. Not unheard of I know but I can't be sure.  Thanks again, jwhite
