What news of the family and forebears of John Kent b.abt 1745 a blacksmith of Selworthy (Allerford)and Susanna b. abt 1749 also of Selworthy? Their daughter Mary was born in Allerford abt 1776 and gave birth to Thomas Kent 1796.
How about the family and forebears of Robert Griffey (Griffiths) and Mary Floyd living in Porlock in the 1790s? Their daughter Joan married the aforementioned Thomas Kent 31 Dec 1825 at Selworthy Church - and what a beautifull spot it is! Continuing the tradition of the Kent blacksmiths of Allerford. Any info on these Somerset families greatly appreciated.
Cheers Dave

Thank you for the baptisms and burial Alli. I did not have the baps of Agnes and Sarah or the burial of Susannah. I have a baptism date for Joan Griffiths of 26 Dec 1799 in Porlock and was wondering where you obtained your information.
It was really heartening to receive a reply to a request over 2 years old and thank you once again.
Dave

Thanks for the links - very interesting. Fred Kent I believe was farrier to the 1952 Olympic Equestrian Team and worked at the forge later taken over by Buz Cooksley. Sadly Fred died in 1999.
My wife is descended from the Kents of Allerford, she is the 2nd g grandaughter of Robert Kent the blacksmith 1832 to 1907, the descent going through his oldest son Thomas. Thomas left Allerford and lived first in Morthoe, and then Slough We visited the village a couple of years ago but unfortunately the old forge, which was next to the post office, had been demolished some time before.
I'd be delighted to receive any information on the village and the Kent family. Cheers Dave
