As you are know doubt aware, John M Fitch is seen in 1871 with his wife Ellen in the High Street, Romford
as per........
1871 (229) High Street, Romford
John M Fitch 26 head carman Widdington, Essex Ellen " 23 Chadwell Heath, Essex George " 7 months Romford, Essex ------------------------------------------------ Widdington is about 5 or 6 miles north of Bishops Stortford but as a Registration District came under SAFFRON WALDEN, ESSEX........you can get an idea of family makeup by following the name in that area by B/M/D and probably the census of 1841 to 1861 (you have probably done this?).
Are his parents definitely Isaac and Ann?
1861 Widdington, Essex Joshua Fitch 54 ag lab Widdington, Essex Elizabeth " 47 " Joseph " 21 ag lab " John " 19 " Susan " 14 " Sarah " 11 " George " 4 " --------------------------------------------
have you any idea what the M (middle name) stands for? have you checked his grandparents.......do you know who they are?...in Widdington?

Thanks for reply. Yes have him on 1871. Looked at 1861 index on 1837 site but nothing conclusive. His father is missing so probably dead. The family are in situ in Widdington 1851 but John missing. So far not been able to find out what M stands for!
Did you ever find John in 1851? Isaac Fitch married Ann Wisken within the Saffron Walden R.D in the Sep qtr of 1842........Isaac died Sept qtr 1851...Saffron Walden R.D
1841 VILLAGE, WIDDINGTON, ESSEX ANN WISKEN 15 F.S NO (looking at the 1841 census Saffron Walden I would have thought she would have been born within the area!) *Ann appears to be working for Joseph Parris (ag lab) and his wife & family -------------
Widdington is part of Saffron Walden R.D Their is a John Fitch born Saffron Walden R.D....June qtr...1844
