Just recently, I found my great-great grandfather's grave.  The stone states his name, Michael Sheridan, then it says A native of Messington Co. Wicklow.  Ok, County Wicklow is easy, but I can't find Messington on any map.  Has anyone ever heard of it?

Hello,

The guy who carved that gravestone was not too good at the job.
Was the B slightly worn so that the word looked like Messington ?
The place name should be Blessington.

Christopher - I tried and tried to make that "M" into a "B" but it's definitely an M, but having you think that it's a carving mistake makes me believe it too.  Between the lousy handwriting and the illiteracy, it's amazing we have any record of these people at all!  Wish I could e-mail you a picture of the tombstone so you could see it.  Thank you so much for your reply!
