I have reinstated my Calderdale Companion website for a time to assess the interest and feedback which seemed to have declined when it was last available.

Any comments, suggestions and other feedback would be most welcome.

You can find it at the same URL as before

Best wishes and Season's Greetings to all

Thankyou so much for putting your site up again Malcolm. All my family lines come from Calderdale and I have missed it greatly.

Please check it out everyone, it's a really fantastic site!

Malcolm,

I wish I'd known it was here Undecided I went to find my Sutcliffes in Lumbutts in 2006 and this would have been so helpful, particulary the mills and churches.

Do you happen to know if there were any small mills in the lumbutts and Mount Pleasant (Todmorden) area? My Sutcliifes were engineers in a cotton mill but I can't find out which one

Being the grandson of a Halifaxonian (?), Halifaxian (?), or Halifaxer (?) or whatever is correct, as well as a Rootschat research collaborator of Maggie10 and CharlotteCH,  I too applaud you Malcolm for reinstating the Calderdale site.

My grandfather, who removed with his family to the U.S. as a boy in 1905, made a mammoth blunder in early summer 1915, when he visited his relatives in Halifax. He was 23 years old and still a British subject and hadn't factored the outbreak of the Great War into the planning for his visit. He was threatened with conscription into the service of Britain upon his arrival in the U.K. But somehow he returned to the U.S. a few weeks later, a direct consequence of which has been the opportunity provided to me to post this message.

Thank you Malcolm and all.

I saw this site very early on, and just wondered yesterday if it was still there, or if my only link was lost in the depths of my old computer.

I've had a good play and will be coming back again at a civilised hour!

I've seen lots of interesting links and photo's though I suspect what I am really looking for is under those reservoirs!

I will get out some more details!

Thank you again Macolm and all.
