Advice needed please
« on: Saturday 16 April 05 19:29 BST (UK) »

Hi
I'm trying to locate the birth of my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather, William Padmore (possibly Podmore) who married Margaret Richards in Penkridge, Staffs on November 30th 1794.The marriage is listed in Penkridge Parish registers (Part 1) 1575-1735 published by the BMSGH as a booklet. I have not been able to locate the record in the PR

I have assumed that he was about 20 at the time of the marriage, which would make his birth around 1774.

The IGI records the birth of 5 children to them between 1794 and 1812.

The IGI lists 3 William Padmore’s births within a 20-mile radius of Penkridge during that time period. Of course there may be others not listed on the IGI.

I thought that it may be simpler to track him via his death and so I have searched 1837 Online from 1837 to 1864 for his death and have 6 or 7 local possibilities ranging from Wolverhampton to Stone.

Can anyone suggest a way in which I can make some progress in confirming William’s parents? Assuming the youngest child would be 29 or 30 at the time of the 1841 Census it seems unlikely that I can use the Census to confirm their whereabouts. Would obtaining the death certificates throw any light onto the subject. I would be most grateful for any help with this.

Many thanks
