Mick

Been trying to figure out that image myself. I have tried to take in all the information around it like

1/ The lady is leaning on the mystery object, look down her right side, her arm has cast a shadow over the object. A bit further down her dress is creased indicating she is pressing or even part sitting on something. From just above the crease to the floor it is nearly a straight line (light/dark) may indicate a table/plinth

2/ The light object in the middle at the top looks like on very close inspection like something Beatrix Potter would have created, it has an eye with shading around it, a nose "could be a pig or a mouse??" to me it is a head and it is wearing a rain hat, and I think it has crossed hands in front.

3/ The man I think is sat on the ledge/table and leaning off it (maybe leaning on his right arm for support) giving impression of leaning.

In conclusion my dear Watson
  Grin
I think both people are sat on a ledge/table or something higher than a chair, and the thing in the middle is a large stuffed Beatrix Potter type character.  Wink photo may have been taken at a travelling show or fair that might be the reason for the lack of anything in the background (painted canvas wall)

But as we will never know it sounds good.

deadants now thats poetic license  Grin  Grin

Ken

Hi Mick, kenhar and Ira,

I looked long and hard at the area you are referring too and I came to the conclusion it was a window with curtains. Although I could be wrong, but the main people are Ira’s grandparents, so I guess we are lucky we could rescue albeit only a little bit but it is something at least. I think we would only be speculating on a third person theory.  It makes for a good talking point. Is there a third person? Who is the mysterious third person?  Huh

You will laugh now, but my first impression was that the object in the middle was a horse.  Undecided

Hi Folks

deadants is right the important thing is the granparents and to salvage as much as possible of the obvious.

I knew other people would see different things so it was a interesting little test, we all see what I minds want us to see, we zoom in & out, clean up we lighten and darken. For me in this photo everything apart from the 2 people was a mess and needed cutting away.

Lesson learnt for me this time is dont assume something that could be wrong. If it can or needs chopping do it, it will make for a better cleaner photo.

Thanks Iria for this posting it's been great

Regards
Ken

Quite right Ken,

Funny thing is,I'm starting to think that Trystan is right about the horse!!

Looking again at the first image on this thread I reckon that I can see the back of it behind gran on the right,so maybe they did have a horse Iria, albeit a small one,I guess you'll never know for sure  Undecided

Nice that Ken and Deadants were able to work with the image though and were able to highlight the most important bits!

I think this photo restoration topic is great,

Keep up the good work, best wishes,Mick Wink

Well it could for that matter be a cow. If they usually only carried small livestock, then taking on cattle would have been quite a big step I'd imagine.

I hope I've not added an illusion to your photograph.

I can definitely see a horse on this photo.

I think your granmother is standing in front of a gate or fence, and your grandfather is behind it.

I think there is someone on the horse, wearing lighter clothes, but the photo has missed their head off.

I don't think its particularly small (but its certainly not huge!) - its just got its head over the fence, leaning forward.

Thats my two pennorth, anyway!

Hi kenhar,
You could get a job on CSI with that niffty technology. Just like those super crime busting guys from Miami, you could now measure the angle of the shadows zoom in, enhance, triangulate and we should be able to tell weather it's a Guernsey or freesian cow.Grin
