At the moment I'm looking for the Rae, Cranston and Bogle families, although to be honest I have not as yet done any serious looking.
Let me know if I can be of any help to you

Hi again, I have a Jemima Rea who was born c1828 in either Wilton/Hawick,Rox.Her parents were Margaret Cunning and John Rae. I find the spelling will change so look at them all. Jemima Rea married George Huggan Dec 28 1846 in Hawick. They ended up having 8 children. If you have access to the 1901 census.I am looking for this couple: Herriet M Huggan and James Riddell and their 1 st child. Reason being is I have a 4 generation photo and have tracked down the 3 women, just need to know the baby's name.I believe the baby to be born between 1899 and 1901. Many thanks. I have the complete monumental Inscriptions for St Marys and Wellogate,...can I look anything up in there, other that those 3 names..which I will do this evening. I am sure I will have a few more questions for you. Do you belong to the Hawick Archaeological Society?

Thisty...I found 1 reference to RAE in St Mary's Churchyard:RACHEL RAE born c 1795 and died May 14 1866 age 71 years. She was the wife of a Robert Laidlaw 1792-1878. They are buried in Compartment "C" ,Row 19. #7. There were no Bogle or Cranston names in either Wellogate or St Mary's . I do not have the M.I for Wilton Churchyard. My Great grandfather ROBERT WALDIE and his wife Elizabeth Richardson with their 11 children went to Nelson BC Canada in about 1910,several of the elder sons came earlier (about)1904 and built the large family home, and my grandfather, also a Robert Waldie built a home as my grandmother whom he had not yet married was arriving in 1910.

Many thanks for that info, I'll see if I can tie them into my tree anywhere.
I have been told that my gt grandmother Alice Bogle (nee Rae) is buried in Wellogate cemetary altho no one is certain of the exact location. Her parents Robert Rae and Margaret (Wright) are also buried in Hawick but again I can't seem to find out where.
I'll do my best to get a copy of the 1901 census
Not a member of the archaeological society but I may look into joining soon

I am going to go through the Wellogate M. I.'s again and see if I can see anything I missed(?) or if there is something strange. The has should have copies of all 3 cemeteries that you could go through as well.Plus heaven only knows what else they have.I well imagine transcriptions of other churchyards too! If I lived in Hawick I would most certainly utilize the HawicK Archaeological Society,as long as they have copies of all their previous years yearly printed books.I have the books from 1980-1987.A wealth of info.I think that I might even have to join again just to satisfy all my inquisitiveness about Hawick. Such wonderful rich history!I have a Margaret Wright born c 1730 who married a James Waldie c1758 and had 4 known children.I will snoop through what I have and see what I can find.

Wellogate Cemetery opened in 1849. The 1st person buried there was a Robert Turnbull age 17 years old. He was buried July 13 1849. Cholera struck Hawick and Wilton and on July 31 1849 the 1st victim buried was Margaret Miller, she was the wife of John Crummie. Two of the middle areas of Wellogate Cemetery were used .for Cholera victims...area 3 & 5 were used for the burials. Cholera claimed 141 from Hawick and 56 from Wilton

Morning Thisty...thought I would touch bases with you to see if you got out to the cemetery. WALDIE is presently what I am chasing!Am attempting a full study on all of them, that way I can sort them into families..Yikes!..I think I bit off more than I can do..Oh Well..it is a challenge. If you can nae find your folks in Hawick, try Jedburg as well. I am seeking the full monumental Inscriptions for WILTON CEMETERY,keep in touch and let me know how you are making out.

Hi guys (ajjbc & Thirsty),
I couldn't help but notice your thread about Hawick Cemeteries and I wondered if you might be able to help me out
I am searching for the grave/MI of Agnes Stainton wife of James Stainton who died in Hawick, Rox between 1832 and 1840. She was probably around 40yrs old
Which cemeteries were in use then? Do either of you know where I should start looking? I am in Australia and I haven't even been able to search through the death/burial records yet
Thanks so much
Jenny
