Hi guys (ajjbc & Thirsty), I couldn't help but notice your thread about Hawick Cemeteries and I wondered if you might be able to help me out I am searching for the grave/MI of Agnes Stainton wife of James Stainton who died in Hawick, Rox between 1832 and 1840. She was probably around 40yrs old Which cemeteries were in use then? Do either of you know where I should start looking? I am in Australia and I haven't even been able to search through the death/burial records yet Thanks so much Jenny Do you know Agnes maiden name?(the wife of James Stainton) I will go throught the M.I.s that I have for Hawick. There is a possibility that they were buried in Wilton Cemetery too...but..one never knows. Will get back to you.

Jenny,...I have just gone through the M.I. for both St Mary's Churchyard and Wellogate Cemetery in Hawick and there are no STAINTON's listed. Could well be buried in Wilton which is just on the other side of the river from Hawick...I do not have those. What was Agnes's maiden name?... AND... where were both of these folks born?

Hi aajjbc, just to let you know that after a good hour traipsing through Wellogate cemetary I eventually found my great grandparent's (Alice Helen Rae and Thomas Bogle) grave.
I'll jot down any details of Waldie graves that I see next time I have a look around for you.
Jenny, I'll keep an eye out for the graves you are looking for too, if they are buried in the Wilton cemetary it should be fairly easy as it's a relatively small cemetary although it has suffered at the hands of vandals so many older stones are now either gone or illegible. I'll let you know if and when I find them .

Hi ajjbc & Thirsty,
Thanks for getting back to me
Agnes Stainton's maiden name was Wilson and I think she was English (possibly from Northumberland or Dunham). Her husband James Stainton was born in Gateshead, Dunham in 1800 and they had their first child in 1820 in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland. James Stainton died in 1883 and is buried in Hawick too - so perhaps they are all in Wilton Cemtery? Or perhaps they are in now unmarked graves? I have some info on James Stainton (newspaper articles, obit and the like) but nothing on Agnes. James did remarry in 1840 to a Janet Anderson.
Thanks so much for the help guys
Jenny

Verbena...just went back into an old file index box that I kept many years ago. Indeed I had MARY REDPATH there,I have her born c 1785 in Melrose,Rox. and married to THOMAS PARK. My note says"booked for marriage Dec 10 1809,in Melrose. Both Thomas and Mary were of Melrose. Sorry I could not offer you more. I have made a notation of their two sons on my info card. TURNBULL....yikes...In Rox that is going to be one big study. My TURNBULL is back at a standstill...MARGARET TURNBULL born c 1730 was married to a ROBERT TINLINE......their daugh ANN TINLINE born 1761 marr a JOHN KERSAL....their son ADAM KERSAL born 1796 marr a MARGARET DRYDEN.....their dau ELIZABETH KERSEL born 182 marr a ROBERT WALDIE. I am in the gleaning mode at present....so all WALDIE names I am trying to set into family groups.....he he I think I might have bitten off more than I can chew.....but...what the heck eh!!!
