Hi Early-bird,
Not so easy peasy, I'm afraid (at least not for me!).
I've followed your excellent instructions to the letter, but, lo-and-behold, no avatar.
Everything goes ok up to and including the point where you click on 'Browse' after selecting 'I will upload my own crest'.
No small window opens called 'File upload' as you indicated that it should. And herein lies the problem for me. I cannot find a way to actually upload the required image.
All I get is the list of files on the hard drive. Even if I then select the correct one, in this instance an image off the desktop, and then click on 'Change profile' absolutely nothing happens.
One thought has occurred to me. I am on XP and have encountered problems in the past where I have followed procedures which were designed for previous versions of Windows.
Are you on XP or an earlier operating system?
I wonder whether anyone else, who is on XP, has met the same problems as me and whether they have solved the problem somehow or, as I am tempted to do, thrown in the towel and given up.
Your views would be appreciated.
Richard

Hi Early-bird,

Hi Richard sorry no reply. I have a severe back problem and it is taking 5 hours each morning before the pain subsides enough to do anything whinge whinge.
It may be something o do with XP but I doubt it as its probably used by most folk on rootschat. I suspect it more likely to do with your security settings. If you have AVG Norton Zonealarm etc installed try disabling them temporaily and try upload your image again. Are you on broadband ? if on dialup it might take 1-2 minutes before your image uploads especially if it is on the big size.
try again and let us know how you get on. PM me by all means if I can help

Hi earley-bird,
Sorry to hear about the back problem - I've had similar problems in the past and they are a real pain (literally!!). Hope things improve.
Yes, I'm on broadband so no download problem there, or at least I don't think so.
I do have Norton Antivirus and Personal Firewall and I've disabled them before trying to download an atavar, but still I cannot make the process work.
I'm beginning to think that my early version of XP might have something to do with this or, conceivably, one of the uploaded service packs.
I can solve most problems arising with my computer but this one, unusually, is, so far, proving inpenetrable.
I'll keep trying though.
Thanks for all your help.
Regards,
Richard
(Incidentally, for the sake of avoiding confusion, the names 'foxgloves' and 'lancs.rose' are, inadvertantly, interchangeable - one being mine and the other my wife's. We are sometimes guilty of forgetting to log off and not noticing which name is logged on!)
