Hi, I am searching for my family history too. My great-great-great grandfather George Miller born in 1828 owned a house calle Bockleton in Chislehurst in Kent. He lived there in 1881, according to census data. By 1901, he lived in Frome but in 1907, he wrote his wioll where he gave the house Bockleton to one of his children. Wonder if your entry, "1867 married Henry MILLER Bromley Kent" has anything to do with them. !! Do you know any Bockleton house in Chislehurst? Thanks, Anura

Hi,
It looks like your Millers came from Nottinghamshire. Mine came from Hardwick, Bucks. It's tough researching such a common name!

Hello Kate, I received your message - many thanks. I didn't know I had any message until I came back to this site yesterday ! I have your list of the Legg family of Beaminster, but it doesn't seem to tally with the 1841 census. On that census there are: Richard 35, Precilla 25. Alfred 11, Ann 5, Chartlotte 45, Elizabeth 4, Elizabeth 9 weeks, Fanny 9 Harriet 14, James 50, Robert 11, and Sarah 8. These people all share the same reference number, but imagine there is more than one family. However there is no sign of the Henry born 1833/4, or Charles born 1836 . In 1841 in Mapperton there's a Charles who's 4 but child of Eliza and (probably) William, so there's something wrong here !
In 1851 we have Richard and Priscilla, with Elizabeth 12, Ann J. 14, Alfred 20, Henry 8 (so born 1843), Charles 4 (so born 1847) and Sarah, 1 month.
Priscilla's age in 1841 was given as 25, but she was in fact 31 ! She must have overdone the 'rounding up of age'
Richard Legg was born in Mapperton in the early 1800's but must have moved to Beaminster as a child. My Leggs stayed in Mapperton - they were there even in 1901, so any link would have been with Richard.
There was a transcription of the Mapperton parish registers at the Society of Genealogists in London (1669-1837 only) and I found a Richard Legg baptised 9.2.1801 as well as a Richard baptised 27.12.1789. The earlier Richard married Edith Whetham and I have the other (1801) Richard marrying Sarah Bagg of Stoke Abbott . Do you suppose that the 1801 Richard married twice ?

Hi,
I'm trying to sort these families out. It would help to see the Dorset 1841 and 1851. I have them on the 1861. Richard 57 and Percilla 50 have the children Alfred (an imbecile) 30 Henry Richard 17 Charles 15 Sarah 10 and Amelia 9. The linnk to 1841 census online is http://www.dorset-opc.com/1841BeaminsterD3&4.htm#3 show Fanny 9 and Elizabeth 9 weeks are also theirs.
There is also James 50 and Charlotte 45 next door who had Elizabeth 4, Harriet 14 William 15 David (left home) Robert 11 and Sarah 8.
Richard Leg m Edith Weathan 27 Dec 1799 of Mapperton in the IGI. Is this the one you refer to? He can't be mine. IGI also has an illegitimate Richard bap about 21 Feb 1800 in Mapperton, mother Mary. I assume this one's mine. Richard Leg married Sarah Bagg in 9 Feb 1801 in Mapperton in IGI so also can't be mine.
I'll keep looking
Kate

Hi ,
I don't have details of any of these Leggs. I found one David Legg born 1822 Netherbury. He moved to Somerset and had his children which included another David Legg b 1867.
