ROBERT McCUTCHEON & others???
« on: Tuesday 08 June 04 17:35 UTC (UK) »

I am looking for information on a Robert McCutcheon of Tyrone County.

Robert McCutcheon was one of the witnesses to the marriage of my Greatgrandmother's brother. James Maguire married a Margaret Hunter in the Parish Church of Lower Langfield on November 26, 1907. Both the groom and Robert McCutcheon gave their addresses as Carrickamulkin, Drumquin (sp?).

On the 1901 Census, James Maguire is living in Drumnakilly, Killycurragh with his mother, Catherine. Was Robert McCutcheon living in the same area as James Maguire in 1901???

In 1912, the Ulster Covenant was drawn up - It is on the internet at http://proni.nics.gov.uk/ulstercovenant/ and shows the signatures of those who in September 1912 signed a declaration to keep Ireland within the UK.

There is a signature of a Robert McCutcheon on this document who is living at Donaghanie, Beragh. This signature would appear to be the same as the Robert who signed the marriage registration mentioned above. Also, it is known that James Maguire subsequently lived and died in the very same place - Donaghanie, Beragh!!!!

I believe that James and Robert may have been good friends and lived in the same area even before the 1901 Census. I would like to find out any information at all about this Robert McCutcheon as I would like to find out if he may be related to my Greatgrandfather, William McCutcheon who emigrated to Canada in 1886. William McCutcheon would then marry James Maguire's sister Mary in Canada in 1894. All efforts to pinpoint William's origins in Tyrone have come to nothing. His parents were John McCutcheon and Mary McFarland - were they Robert's parents as well?HuhHuh?

The coincidence of the Maguire/McCutcheon connection on both sides of the Atlantic intrigues me and I would like to try and find out if there may be a connection between the families in Tyrone long before my McCutcheon's and Maguire's ended up in Canada. (There may also be a connection to the family name GLASS in Tyrone before Canada)

ALSO - anyone having any birth records, references and/or information for any McCutcheon's (male or female) born circa 1850 to 1870 whose parents were listed as a John McCutcheon and a Mary McFarland I would be extremely greatful to hear bout them - I am sure that my William McCutcheon who was born circa 1865 had siblings. I would like to establish a definite PLACE from which my McCutcheon's of Tyrone originated. (There was one known brother for William and his name was Samuel but no other information is known about him - he supposedly emigrated with William to Canada in 1886 or so and then disappeared out west somewhere.)

Any information greatly appreciated.

Hi Ken

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes
