Edith Hewitt-Liverpool Toxteth Park
« on: Wednesday 20 April 05 14:57 BST (UK) »

Recently got a marriage cert. for my grandparents.
Joseph Beddall (age 22)Edith Hewitt (21) at Toxteth Park 5.4.1926.
Need to be sure about Edith's birth. Her father was a carter, named Joseph, living at 20 Belvedere Road. On the sites I've accessed there are several Edith Hewitts all born around the same time. Any suggestions other than sending for birth certs for all? Knowing my luck they'd all have fathers called Joseph!

Managed to find Joseph Beddall's father on the 1901, as he was a flour miller,a more unusual occupation (also called Joseph- I'm overrun with them!)  They were in Wolverhampton.

Any help would be great--I'm going round in circles.
Cheers

Hi

Who are the witnessess on their marriage certificate, could provide some clues.  Do you know if Edith had any brothers or sisters.

Hi Sue
Thanks for that. The witnesses are Benjamin Charles (Carnes?) and A.M. Chadwick. I remember that my mother had a cousin called Les Chadwick(of Gerry and the Pacemakers, if you're old enough to remember them? My claim to fame!) Guessing therefore that either Edith or Joseph had a sister who married a Chadwick . Will trawl the marriages and see what I can find. Thanks for trying to help.

Hi Carol

You may have already come across this but an

Alexandra M Hewitt married a John A Chadwick in 1923 at St Pauls Toxteth Park.  This more than likely is the witness on cert.  Edith's sister?

Sue, you're a star!
Hadn't had time to trawl through them myself, as I've been at work. You've probably saved me hours. Will post again when I know more.
Thanks

Birth lookup please-Alexandra M. Hewitt
« Reply #5 on: Monday 25 April 05 22:18 BST (UK) »

Hi, me again.
Been looking for Alexandra's birth but can't find it. Doesn't help that free bmd has been down tonight. If I can find where Alex. was born then I'll have more idea which Edith is the correct one.Do know from Edith's marr.cert. that father's name was Joseph, if that helps.

Anyone help? Would be most grateful- can't sleep tonight until I have it- you know how it is!!!

Hi Carol

I've had no luck on Freebmd either.  I will take a look for Alexandra.  Pity we did not know her middle name just initial M as I have come across members of my family who used their middle name throughout their lives.  One known as Frances but actually born Margaret Frances.

I will let you know if I come across anything.

Found Alexandra's birth! Had to use 1837 mind you. An expensive option, but was lucky. Took a guess that she'd be 21 at marriage in 1923 and guess what??? Birth registered Sept. qtr. 1902 at West Derby (which includes Toxteth Park) 8b 699.
However, still not sure about Edith, because having looked at the right years, can't find one registered in West Derby.

Any more ideas, anyone?

Hi Carol

Great you found Alexandra.  There is 2 Ediths one born June 1906 West Derby that would make her 20 when married and another I think born 1902, West Derby.
That was on Ancestry, still having no luck on Freebmd.

Let me know

Thanks Sue, well done. Wink
Wasn't looking as far back as 1902 for Edith, as her marriage cert says age is 21. However, I suppose it could just mean 'over 21', although Joseph is shown as 22. As she married on April 5th 1926, don't think that the June 1906 one could be her, as she would only have been 19 at the time. The marriage was after banns in her own church, from the look of things, so unlikely that she lied about her age, don't you think? So if the 1902 birth is right then it must mean that she and Alexandra were twins. (Had a look and they'rre both registered in Sept. qtr 1902, although on pages 699 & 715. Does that sound right to you? Surely they would be on the same page?

Hi Carol

Unless Edith was born early few days of April would make her 20.

About being a twin I would think that they would be on same page.. I know my husbands birth cert he is a twin as the time of birth on,. Not too sure about birth entries re twins.

Do you think it would be best going for the safer option and order Alexandras cert.
