Suggestions Please? Looking for a stray
« on: Sunday 21 November 04 12:45 GMT (UK) »

Hi
I wonder if anyone with more experience might offer some advice? I have been searching for a birth from Emma Sophia Gibson in aprox. 1863 in Islington. On her marriage certificate her father is listed as George Gibson and her birthplace Islington.
I have found her as a married adult on the 1901 census (as Emma Shrubsole)...her birthplace is given as Islington. I have found an Emma Gibson aged 7 on the 1871 census with a grandfather George Gibson

see below

Edward Gibson 1  Deptford, Kent, England Grandson  St Paul Deptford  London
Elizabeth Gibson 66  London, Middlesex, England Wife  St Paul Deptford  London
Elizabeth S Gibson 34  St Luke, Middlesex, England Daughter  St Paul Deptford  London
Emma Gibson 7  Islington, Middlesex, England Granddaughter  St Paul Deptford  London
George Gibson 61  Charlton, Kent, England Head  St Paul Deptford  London
Mary A Gibson 9  Islington, Middlesex, England Granddaughter  St Paul Deptford  London
Robert Marlin 20  London, Middlesex, England Brother  St Paul Deptford  London

I feel this is almost certainly my Emma..BUT my problem is I cannot find a birth registration. There is nothing on the GRO Index and I have paid them to do a search that was fruitless.

Can anyone suggest what I might do next to establish a birth?

With Much Appreciation
Robyn

Suggestion Locate George Snr in 1861 (try 1871 address) and use the 1851 name index to find him earlier.

This should indicate if he had a son George, and whether that son was around in 1861. If not, look for him with Elizabeth in Islington.

I have assumed that Elizabeth S is a widow?

Most peculiar but I cannot find any of the others on the 1881 census.
Did they emigrate?
Also checked the brother Robert Marlin.
