Hi Jim
Further to your PM, I had a look for a marriage, but all I came up with on freebmd was this:
George GREEN Downham Sept q 1844 13 161
Mary GILSON also on page
Your Mary came from Littleport which is not a million miles from Downham, but you need an expert to tell you which reg district that would be!
Also you might expect them to have had a child earlier than Ann's birth ??
kind regards, Arranroots

At a guess I would say your George & Mary married in 1846/7 in, probably, Littleport. May I suggest you ask Bruce Frost of the Littleport Society? He has all Littleport records & could find a George Green & Mary marriage for you if there was one in the village. As you've probably gathered I, too, am researching the Green surname. I don't think we are related but if you do find your line takes you to Litcham, Norfolk do get back to me.
Regards
Brenda
