The Oregon Trail. 1820 - 1870.
« on: Thursday 21 April 05 22:07 BST (UK) »

   Smiley Hi all,

Just been having a look at various sites on the subject.

Type in "Oregon Trail Dairies" in to search engine,

There are several families doing the 2000 mile trek.

If you come across the Norris family let me know.  Wink

 Smiley Hi Annie,
Thanks for that site, it looks good.

Shame I would only be guessing at the date and that the family
did do the trail. The charge is $10 dollars per name per 5 yr span.

This "hobby" of our's has already seen off quite a bit to much.
I think that I shall have to leave this one as is. That William Norris and
his wife Sarah left England for New lenox and Salem, Illinois around 1848.

How they got there and what they did, where thier children are,
                                 I shall never know.

Hi Lesanne

I don't know if NARA (the American National Archives ) has anything - I'm sure they do !
if you find anything pertinent that maybe I could look up for you at their research office  - let me know  - I'd be glad to help you if I can!

Cheesy  Hey Wow, that's really kind of you but I have nothing else to go on other than the census records for them in Illinois from 1850.
The missing Andrew Albert Norris (b1852 in Islip, Oxon) is William's nephew and I can't find him anywhere in England. Been trying since 1965.  I hoped he may have visited his uncle.
I found  an Andrew in prison in Oregon, wrote to their archives but that Andrew was from Penslyvania ?!?
But it's been fun, following them to the U.S.

                           Thanks again. Lesanne.  Smiley

That's NARA -  even if you don't find what you want -  you can spend hours finding all kinds of great stuff...last time I was on there -  I happened to look at the clock and it was 4am.........!!
Try it see what you can find

Hiya, I'm back.
                 Rightio,
Yep, the death in Reading.  Is that 2 yrs to young. But it's the only
Andrew Albert around. So I can't dismiss it.

There is also a marriage in Totnes in Mar 1881 but our AA has no bride !!!
typical. I have checked out the other couple...

I would really appreciate the 1861 english census, as that would show me, not
            only Andrew & Mary, but also Henry b Jun1851 and A A b Aug 1852,
             possibly others before Thomas.

Has the 1891 got anybody else on it?

On the U.S. 1850 census for William & Sarah in New Lenox Illinois.
I have Albert has the first born in Illinois c1846.
Would there be any reference to the birthplace of his mum and dad
on any of his American certificates etc.    Grin

Lesanne.   Thanks for all your time. Smiley

 Cheesy Hi Grub,
Thanks for taking the time to post the above 1861 census.

Do tell me if this posting is as on your census?

You see, I have various marriage / birth cert's.

              Andrew 1853...is? Andrew Albert 1852.
              Henry 1852.....is? Henry Wall 1851.

Sarah 1830...could you give her surname.. as I have a Sarah b 1862.
It may be that she is an unknown (to me) sister to Andrew Snr !!

Hi Lesanne

Well AA only appears on the 1861 census aged 8 he doesn't show up on any of the others

here's 1891
22 Midgeham Green Newbury Berks

Andrew Norris aged 64 General Labourer    Deaf ( did you know that? )
Mary Norris     aged 61 Launderess b. Thorpe Mandaville Northants
Henrietta        aged 16 Launderess b. Holborn London

He seemed to have been deaf for a while I don't think it was just old age....
