1861/1871 census look up

I cant find my Great Grandfather James Bond on the 1861 and 1871 census,I cant find his birth either,I know he was born in Whitchurch,Hants,as it says on his Army papers,he was born 1856/1857,I found him on the 1901 census age 44 years,His father was named Thomas Bond and he was a bootmaker,why cant we find his birth anywhere!could someone please help,many thanks,

Can you give the household/(family) listing of the census(es) that you do have him on, and maybe we can come up with some suggestions.

Hello Pauline,I have him on the 1901 census as James Bond,age 44 years living at Royal Artillery Clarence Barracks Portsmouth and Southsea,He was married to Bridget with Children,He was a Sergeant in The Berks Regt,born 1857 in Whitchurch,Hants,I have been unable to find his birth and cant find him on any other census,I have his marriage cert,He married in Ireland,I think he was in Athlone with the Army,That was in 1886,It has on the cert his father was a Thomas Bond but he was Deceased when the marriage took place in !886,It also says his father was a bootmaker,James died age 64 years in January 1921,I have been looking for James for Two years now and still no clues as to where he was in 1861 and 1871 census or his birth,Many thanks for your reply.

No-one can help unless you give the household listing. What were their children named, when & where were they born? How old was the wife (Bridget), where was she born?.

He would not have been married in 1861/1871 census! In 1901 the place of residence was Army Barracks as stated.
