Saddell& Skipness
« on: Sunday 24 April 05 00:01 UTC (UK) »

My family has been traced to Skipness on Oragaig and Eascairt Estates from 1817 to 1830, beginning with Angus Mcintyr and Katrin Taylor. I have Angus birth as 8th Oct. 1795 to Donald McIntyre and Ann Ferguson.
There I am stuck, as I don't know exactly where Angus was born, and no records turned up yet for the marriage of Donald and Ann. I have tried Scotlands people and although I have collected a lot of names , so far nothing that gives a link.

Heeeelp. any suggestions welcome.

Hello MacKiwi!

I note your reference to Skipness and the Taylor surname.

Having just learnt of Taylor connections in Skippness and Saddell, I was wondering if any of the following names might have "crossed your research path".

Surnames I know of so far: Taylor, Cruikshank, Duncan and Ransom.
Time frame is between 1728 and 1850

I have no estate names as yet.

Cheers

Hi Elsie,
I have a Grace & Elizabeth Duncan in the 1851 Census. Angus appears to have married Grace after his first wife Katrin or Catherine Taylor died. Alas I still haven't found the marriage registered but Grace died named McIntyre, widow. Angus had died in 1857.
I don't have any definite links to Katrin's Taylor family yet information has been hard to get from that corner.
Have you tried to Google Skipness farms yet ? there are one or two that might help.
Also Google Angus Graham Oragaig he has a lot of births and marriages there.

Let me know if Grace has a connection to you and good luck with your search.

Hi MacKiwi!  Smiley

I will follow up on your suggestions later today. Google here I come.

Can you please post the details of the 1851 census for me for Grace and Elizabeth? Could help in respect to ages, place names etc....

As i progress, if I find any possible connection I will contact you. As Skipness seems to have had a very small population, I'd suggest there is a possibility.

I have just received some photos of Skipness. If you would like I could forward them to you. Send me a PM with your email address if you are interested.

Thanks for responding to my posting.  Smiley

Apologies if I haven't, await your reply and will not be so tardy in future.

Hello Mackiwi  Smiley

I would still welcome a copy of this census if you have it to hand. Thanks.

Appreciate we all have distractions and sometimes things we intend to do get mislaid inadvertently.  Good to catch up now. Cheesy
