Coroners reports

A good source are local newspapers, but the local Archives will have them in certain cases.

My local archives only has them since 1940.

The local coroners office could also be a contact point but they keep only a few ( from my experience locally)

If all else fails - the newspapers are certain to come up trumps

You did not say a time period.

I went to the Coroners for my grandads report, he was killed in a mining accident in the early 1950's.  I  and was given a photocopied form witht the words in small print 'a reasonable fee'.

Oh, by the way think there is a closure period aswell, but don't quote me on that one - but 30 years seems to ring a bell.

I settled for the paper cutting that my father had saved - cut out with no newspaper name or date, but better than nothing.  Told me a great deal but would have liked to see the transcript.

This would have been extensively reported on in the local newspaper which is held here:
http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/GenerateContent?CONTENT_ITEM_ID=2108&CONTENT_ITEM_TYPE=0&MENU_ID=5396
They offer a fee paying service and I'm sure they will give the info. you need.

Hi Wellie,

My grandfather also died in 1936, i wrote to the birmingham Coroner, asking if i could either look or have a copy of the inquest papers.
There is supposed to be a 70 year privacy clause, and mine was under that time frame, but they still sent me a copy, it cost me about 14 pounds, Obviously i new from his death  cert his date of death and the inquest. so it's worth a try writing to the coroners officer.
I also found a piece about him in the newspaper on the actual day of the inquest.

Hope this helps
