Hi Chrissy

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you made any progress,  or do you have any further details that could help someone to find what you are looking for?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Chrissy, it´s been a while, so perhaps you have got your Davidsons sorted by now. Did you consider the marriage of John Davies and Martha Payne 14/12/1832 at High Church, Paisley, Ren.  which is just a stone´s throw across the Clyde?

Your Davidsons (minus Mary,I´m afraid) are at 76, George St., Dunoon in 1851 viz.

John       Davidson      42         Carter                     Ireland
Martha          do          39                                            do
Thomas         do          15      Penny Post Boy         Argyll, Dunoon
William          do           8          Scholar                        do
HenryG.P.(sic)do          5                                              do
Marion           do          2                                              do

plus two lodgers. Full details at SP. The family is not obvious in the 1861 census.

Hope this helps. The couple born in Ireland could be difficult to find. Strange that Martha´s name was transcribed at Thomas´ birth as "Paineboth"; seems dubious to say the least! Perhaps the beginning of "both of this parish".

Good hunting,

Hello Thrall, this is what i have so far.
JOHN DAVIDSON
Birth:  01 DEC 1852
Christening:  24 NOV 1855   Dunoon And Kilmun, Argyll, Scotland
Parents:   Father:  JOHN DAVIDSON   Mother:  MARTHA PAYNE

~~~~~~~~
MARY DAVIDSON
Birth:  10 MAR 1849
  Christening:  08 APR 1849   Dunoon And Kilmun, Argyll, Scotland
Parents:  Father:  JOHN DAVIDSON    Mother:  MARTHA PAINE  o .
From the IGI (records extracted from the Old Parish Registers):
Parents John DAVIDSON and Martha PAINEBOTH
Thomas DAVIDSON,  b 1 Apr bap 19 Apr 1834, Dunoon & Kilmun, Argyll, Scotland
FreeCEN (at http://freecen.rootsweb.com/ )  has the family in the 1841 census - but under the name DAVISON!
Hillfoot Street, Dunoon & Kilmun
John DAVISON, 30 (remember, ages were rounded down to the nearest 5), Laborer, born Ireland
Martha DAVISON, 30, b Ireland
Thomas DAVISON, 7, b Argyllshire
Martha DAVISON, 2, b Argyllshire
John DAVISON, 2m, b Argyllshire
Donald MCQUEEN, 30, Police Officer, born Scotland but not in Argyllshire
Walter MCPARLAN, 25, Flesher, born Scotland but not in Argyllshire
Presumably the John who was 2m old in 1841 must have died as the name was re-used for John b 1852
Some other kind rootschatters have helped me get this other info,Jap and Carol,thanks guys!!!!!
   So,10 years later we have 3 other children,Didnt know of them before!!!!!My head is spinning!!!!!
  Thomas b  1834 married in australia in 1855,,he must have been around 20,?Huh
Is renfew close???I havent got any details of john and martha marriage,they keep changing the darn spelling. Huh
Thomas pain davidson?davison.......I wonder, if hes fom another union,me thinks he is ,but I havent got any info.
 please feel free to express any opinion you have on this subject,Id reaaly appreciate the advice.
Hi Chrissy, good you´ve got things together! Paisley is only a quick ferry and fifteen miles east on land from Dunoon, so no big deal. I would go with that marriage until you find something better......
Now to find the ship that conveyed them to Oz............... Undecided
Hi Chrissy, I should have transcribed it all, to save you trouble! Fortunately you didn´t wait too long so I could still find it in among all my "viewed images" at SP.
Alexander McCulloch, lodger, mar., 26, Mason (Journeyman),    Argyll. Dunnoon
John Bell                  ,  do ,   do , 44,    do            do          ,    Buteshire, P. L.nh??
"GP" I thought unusual, hence my "sic". Your guess is as good as mine. (As is also the last place name, Port HuhHuh) Someone who knows Buteshire could help here.
So many of my lot took in lodgers that I think it was just a question of not enough accommodation, the need for some extra cash, and nb., they were both in an occupation that meant moving around to follow trade.
Best wishes,
Hi Chrissy,
                 No Henrys in Argyll 1861 according to SP. Suggest you check yourself on that site for further census(es). Inveraray Jail is an excellent "visit" for all ages. And of course the whole area well worthy of inspection, with the area to the north west getting even better....and better.
PM sent, 19.04.,
Good hunting,
