Marriage certificate query
« on: Wednesday 27 April 05 21:29 UTC (UK) »

I have a marriage certificate from the Parish of St. Mary, Dover which I have a few queries about.

Mary Ann BURNELL alias FULL, she married Frederick FULL in 1843. Why the wording alias FULL.Was she married to another FULL.

In another column under the heading of condition.

Married at St. Sampson, Guernsey, August 1840.

Would this marriage at Guernsey  refer to Frederick FULL or his spouse.

Would this be in the column for Frederick or his bride?  If it is in the column for both, perhaps it means that they had been married in Guernsey  Huh  Maybe that's why she was listed as alias FULL and now they were getting married in the established C of E church - perhaps the other wedding was in a different church, chapel or establishment?  It's just another thought as it wasn't usual to list the dates of either parties previous marriages if they had been widowed etc..

Best wishes

Thank you for your reply, the marriage at Guernsey in 1840 was in the only column for conditions. probably refers to both husband and wife. the BURNELL and FULL  names for spouse have both been underlined. but not for Frederick FULL.

Hi Yogi

That underlining could just be a "reminder" that there were two surnames to list for Mary.  It would be interesting to see what turns up from the Channel Islands marriage if you can get a copy.  It's certainly interesting or, one could say, how lucky is that  Smiley

Best wishes
