Evans Llanwinio
« on: Thursday 28 April 05 22:40 BST (UK) »

Am searching for my gr grandfather who was born in Llanwinio Carmarthen in 1846. I know absolutely nothing about his family. He married Anna Evans from Llanboidy around 1880 and they moved to Aberdare Glamorgan to find work. The family was brought up there.

Hi elrow,

I'm sure you know the problems with John Evans, married to Anne, Mary or Elizabeth Evans - I've got them all in my tree! All my Evans' are originally from Carmarthenshire.

I found this John in 1861. He is the only one born in Llanwinio

David Evans 1815  Treleach, CMN Head  Treleach ar Bettws  CMN
Phoebe Evans 1821  Treleach, CMN, Wife  Treleach ar Bettws  CMN
John Evans 1848  Llanwinio, CMN, Son  Treleach ar Bettws  CMN
Anne Evans 1850  Treleach, CMN Daughter  Treleach ar Bettws  CMN
William Evans 1859  Treleach, CMN, Son  Treleach ar Bettws  CMN
Anna Davies 1835  Treleach, CMN, Servant  Treleach ar Bettws  CMN
David Davies 1845  Treleach, CMN, Servant  Treleach ar Bettws  CMN
Martha Davies 1848  Llanboidy, CMN Servant  Treleach ar Bettws  CMN
Rees Davies 1838  Llanwinio, CMN Boarder  Treleach ar Bettws  CMN

RG9/4145 Folio 15  Page 7

If you think this could be the one, I'll have a look at 71 etc.

Thank you for your help. It's very difficult for me to recognise the family too since I know nothing but the census info about him. I have a family tree for Anna his wife. The 1901 census has him and also the 1891 but that did not list his work. I have him also on the 1881 familysearch. His age is consistent on them all so I guess he was born in 1846. The names made me quite excited though, since one of his daughters was subsequently Phoebe and his son William. The other daughters were Martha, Margaret Rose and Sarah, my grandmother. I have a photo of John and Anna. I would be grateful if you could find him on the 1871 census. Thank you again.

Sorry for taking so long to reply - I don't check the Carms section all that often.

Can you post the census info you have on him? That would help find him in earlier ones.

Diolch,

Edrych ar y boarder, Ann Edwards, yn 81. Mi gafodd ei heni yn Lanboidy, fel Ann Evans,  y wraig. Ydi’n bosib, roedd enw cyn ei phriod Ann Edwards? Ac efallai ydy’r enw un ohonyn nhw ddim Ann, ond Hannah....
Wyt ti wedi prynu’r dystygrif priod John ag Ann?

Iawn, dwi wed ichwilio amdano dyma unig John Evans yn 71, sy’n dod o Llanwinio

Civil Parish:    Llanwinio ; RG10/5504 ; Ardal: Carmarthen ; Is-Ardal:Conwil
Ffolio:    48  Tud.:    7
William Williams abt 1837  Clydey, Pembrokeshire, Wales Head  Llanwinio  CMN
Anna Williams abt 1850  Trelech, Carmarthenshire, Wales Wife  Llanwinio  CMN
Phebe Williams abt 1870  Llanwinio, Carmarthenshire, Wales Daughter  Llanwinio  CMN
John Evans abt 1850  Llanwinio, Carmarthenshire, Wales Servant  Llanwinio  CMN
Daniel Evans abt 1851  Eastellan, Pembrokeshire, Wales Apprentice  Llanwinio  CMN

Ond yn 1861:

Thomas Evans abt 1827  Lanboidy, Carmarthenshire, Wales Head
Jane Evans abt 1833  Llanove, Carmarthenshire, Wales Wife
John Evans abt 1846  Llanboidy, Carmarthenshire, Wales Son
Thomas Evans abt 1848  Llanboidy, Carmarthenshire, Wales Son
Ann Evans abt 1851  Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales Daughter
Elizabeth Thomas abt 1853  Ystradgynlais, Breconshire, Wales Daughter
Jane Evans abt 1858  Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales Daughter
Mary Evans abt 1860  Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales Daughter
Benjn Beavan abt 1826  Merthyr Cynog, Carmarthenshire, Wales Lodger

Tref:    Aberdare; RG9/4069 ; Ardal:    Merthyr Tydfil ; Is Ardal :    Aberdare
Ffolio:    64  Tud:    5

Does dim un John Evans, geni 1846 yn Lanwinio yn 1861.

Ond yn Treleach ar Bettws; RG9/4145; Carmarthen, Conwil; Ffolio: 15 ; Tud:    7

David Evans abt 1815  Treleach, Carmarthenshire, Wales Head
Phoebe Evans abt 1821  Treleach, Carmarthenshire, Wales Wife
John Evans abt 1848  Llanwinio, Carmarthenshire, Wales Son
Anne Evans abt 1850  Treleach, Carmarthenshire, Wales Daughter
William Evans abt 1859  Treleach, Carmarthenshire, Wales Son
Rees Davies abt 1838  Llanwinio, Carmarthenshire, Wales Boarder
Anna Davies abt 1835  Treleach, Carmarthenshire, Wales Servant
David Davies abt 1845  Treleach, Carmarthenshire, Wales Servant
Martha Davies abt 1848  Llanboidy, Carmarthenshire, Wales Servant

Dwi’n siwr, mae y deulu yma’n gywir. Yr enw Phoebe (enw mam John, a wedyn enw merch) yn roi cliw.

Be ti’n feddwl? Yn fy marn i, fydd rhaid iddi ti prynu tystygrif priodas i fod yn siwr iawn.

Fedra ddim ffindio Ann Edwards yn 71 o Sir Fyrddin o gwbl, nag yn 1861, ond dydi 61 ddim yn lawn ar hyn o’r bryd.

Diolch o waelod calon Dewi. Mae llawer o amser a gwaith wedi mynd i mewn i'r ymchwil yna. Roeddech yn gofyn am Hannah/Ann/Anna. Rwy wedi penderfyny mai Anna oedd hi gan mai Catherine oedd fy hen famgu arall. Enw fy mam oedd Catherine Anna. Ond wrth gwrs mae'n eithaf posib mai Hannah oedd hi.
Mae lot o wybodaeth yn eich neges ac mae eisiau llawer o amser i'w dreilio !!
Gyda llaw mae fy ngŵr yn dod o Benygroes, plwyf Llanllyfni. Rwy'n chwilio am ei hen daid William Thomas hefyd. Bu'n byw yn Nebo.  Ydy hynny yn agos i'ch William chi? Rydyn ni'n mynd yna weithiau er ein bod yn byw yn y de nawr. Gaf i chwilio drosoch?
