Hi,

Is anyone else tracing the PRIOR family in Halstead Essex in the 19th Century. Other surnames they married include ARNOLD and ROOT.
I have some information to share and some still missing.

I have a Mary Prior.  I don't know where the family originated from.
She was born abt 1868 in Chelmsford, Essex.  Her parents were James & Mary.  She married Arthur Fewell 1888 in Bexleyheath, Kent.

I have my g grandfather who is born in 1872 in Halstead (can't find baptism in PRs or birth in freebmd) in Halstead 1881 census, nowhere to be found in 1891 and marries in Bromley Kent as a Civil Engineer. 1901 in Foots Cray, Kent as a Civil engineer. Where was he in 1891 and how did he, from a family of Silk Weavers, train to become an Engineer?

My ggggrandfather was born in Halstead. He was Samuel Prior and I know nothing more about him except that he had a son  called Thomas Cooper Prior. The family moved to Sudbury where they were tailors and I  believe connected with the silk weaving trade.I have information which I am willing to share including certificates,. My grandfather Samuel was born in Sudbury in 1857 but was in London by 1880 where he was a carman.I would be interested in any info of the Prioirs in Halstead or Sudbury

I have a Samuel Prior b 1839 in Halstead. IS this yours? He was there is 1841 and 1851 then disappeared. His father was Samuel, b 1812, mother Rachel and I have four other children of this marriage. I don't have this family linked into mine yet. What do you have?

I do not know much about the Halstead Priors.My Samuel was a Tailor and was 49 in 1851 living in Sudbury. He was born in Halstead and the 1812 date would fit in with him. With him in 1851 were Elizabeth 17 and William 14.Another son was my gggrandfather Thomas Cooper Priorb 1835 in Halstead and your other Samuel could have been his brother.Thomas married Mary Ann Piper in 1854 in Sudbury and my ggrandfather Samuel was born in Sudbury in1858,Mary Ann died in 1861 age 28. Thomas remarried in 1861 and again in 1866. He died in1872 age 37. There were two daughters in the later marriages Hepzibah and Caroline and I think there was a son Thomas Cooper who died at 5months.

Samuel PRIOR Halstead 1802
1851 Sudbury Tailor
children Elizabeth 1834 Halstead? 1851 Sudbury
Thomas Cooper 1835 Halstead 1861 Sudbury with family
William 1837 Halstead? 1851 Sudbury

They're not the same (though possibly related)

Possible parents : William and Sarah who were had a child William in 1806

Let me know if you get any further.
