How do I stop notification of a topic?
« on: Friday 29 April 05 18:25 BST (UK) »

I long ago worked out how to get notification of replies to posted topics, but when I no longer want them how do I stop? Huh

My inbox sometimes gets so full of emails from Rootschat that my daughter thinks I'm having an online fling!

Help please

Hi Carol

You need to go to each topic individually (ie. when you get a notification) and press the notify button at the end of the post - then you can disable notification for that particular topic.

Best wishes

Carol,

Don't despair.  Wink

Are there a couple of topics that you seem to be getting a lot of notifications for in particualar? It's quite easy just to stop notifications just for them, and leave any others to come through.

Have a liitle look under "Profile" then "Notifications and Email"

On that page, under "Current Board Notifications" you check (select) the topics you don't want any further notifications for, then click "Unsubscribe".

If you have any problems with it then let me know, and I'll try and sort it out for you.

Hi there
Thanks, both. Have worked through your instuctions and managed to stop notif. on some old topics. Great stuff!

Now for another little problem  Roll Eyes.
I replied to a poll and ever since have been notified of other people's replies. How do I stop getting them? I've tried clicking on the notify button at the end but it just asks me if I want to ENABLE notification. As I'm already getting notified, I just want to tell it NO!!!
Because it wasn't originally my post it doesn't appear on my 'current board notifications'.
I know I sound a bit dim but I'm sure there must be others out there with the same problem.

Hi Mimosa
Two blue lines where? In the email? Can't find any on mine. Or are they in the reply somewhere?

Carol

I think your problem sound like one I enquired about recently.

I had asked for a look-up and when that business was sorted, I no longer wished to be notified of replies.  I stopped the e-mails, but the topic keeps popping up in my unread items every time someone asks for a look-up or contributes to the topic.

Occasionally I look at them just to get them out of my inbox, but the same day they reappear.  Very annoying!

Sadly it seems no-one can fix it.  Unless of course, someone knows different...??   Wink

HI again
You're quite right Mimosa, it does say unsubscibe. Unfortunately, this doesn't work for me when I click on it. Also I cannot get directly to the reply by clicking on 'view the reply'. I have to go to Rootschat homepage and get it from there..
Must be something to do with my isp.
Thanks for trying to help.

AOL users will find that links in some emails (including RootsChat ones) will not work when clicked on them.

You can try and "cut and paste" the "unsubscribe" link into your browser, and that should work.

Sorry Dinie, but that is also referring to "e-mail notification" on your postings.
Everything said so far about enabling and disabling notification refers to "e-mail notification"

The problem is, that as soon as you enter a reply to any topic, even if you have switched off notification,
you will still find it in the list "Show new replies to your posts.",
and this notification is the one you can't switch off !!

Now that I have replied, although my e-mail notification is switched off (default in profile), I will also be notified of any more replies on this thread,  in the "Show new replies to your posts." list  !!

That's life  Grin
Bob

Carol

I have recently been through this. You can stop 'email replies' but once you have replied to a topic you cannot stop the 'new replies to your posts'.
