And what was his place of birth?  He's nowhere to be seen in Spencer St, 1881 so maybe he died before then?
1881 30 Spencer St was occupied by John Murphy & family, do you know where Cornelius was in 1871?

I am trying to find any record of my G grandfather John Smith who was a captain in the Yorkshire Hussars. His grave stone was in the Linthorpe cemetery approx 60years ago next to his sister Ann Hollins -neither are there now. Apparently he committed suicide after losing his house and farm gambling. I can find no record of him in Military records (probably because of the shame he brought upon his family and regiment).
Any help appreciated...

Thanks for your reply Barbara, but I am very short on details. I will see what else I can dredge up from my cousin who lives in Middlesbrough. I will be away for two weeks but will write again after then.

When you find out more details, perhaps it might be as well to post a new topic on another board.  Had a quick look for Ann Hollins death (as thought it would be easier than looking for a John Smith without dates) but couldn't find anything in the Middlesbrough indexes - here's the link if you want to have a search:

Do you have her death cert?

I think this may be her

Annie Farrell age 66
Dec Q 1936
Middlesbrough 9d 628

or if you contact Middlesbrough direct via

http://www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk/index.php

Their ref no. is M-M-5A-0-015

If you get the cert you can ring the very nice ladies in the cemetary office, give them the details from the cert

The contact for Acklam is

Acklam Cemetery and Crematoruim
Acklam Road
Middlesbrough
TS5 7HE
Phone: 01642 817725

and if you don't live in the area the three musketeers will go a looking for you  Grin

Hi
I'm looking for the Hopkins, Rafferty and O'Rourke Families, if someone can help it would be great (more than great!)
Owen Hopkins died in 1895 .. I can't find him anywhere.
Thomas Rafferty died 1917, his wife Mary died around 1899, his father was Patrick, his mother
Anything at all would be a huge help,
                       Many Thanks
                               Helga

Hi Helga,

Were they all living in Middlesbrough?

Tees valley indexes don't show any of them, although I saw the death reg for Thomas in 1917 Middlesbrough on freebmd.  Have you got his death cert to show his address?
