trying to find marriage certificates
« on: Tuesday 10 August 04 12:50 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find my husbands ggg grandmothers maiden name, I have looked on freeb.m.d and ancestry but can't find any marriage details on her husbands name. As I live in Australia I have to do everything on the intrenet so can anyone give me ideas where to look.
thank-you.

There is also 1837.com which is pay per view. All registered BMD's from 1837
are available but the indexing system is not too good. You need to have a start date otherwise it could cost loadsamoney as each page viewed is chargable-GBP 10p per page- initial payment is £5.00 (50 pages viewing)
If you do have a name/date then it may be worthwhile searching the site but  early dates offer no cross references...so you may have a name/date that appears to be yours but you will not definately know without ordering a certificate costing £7.00. GBP...and it may be the wrong cert.
Free BMD' or'Local BMD' sites offer cross referencing so you if you can wait awhile until the records are transcribed then it won't cost you anything apart from the GBP £7.00 cost of a cert.

Hope this helps.
