Woman on the ground
|
Hi,
I am considering joining Ancestry.co.uk. I used my 2 week trial (but they never took my money from the credit card even though I didn't cancel)
I've just seen that they have the 1901 census for some counties. Does this mean I won't need to go on the pay per view archives site anymore?
Thanks
Kate

I've had so much help from various mailing lists (especially Rootschat), most of my spare cash goes on ordering certificates. However I am also a member of 2 FHS, which I think is worth while.
My major success to date was finding 3 names in my tree on genes reconnected, all from the same lister. Grudgingly I paid my subscription. It turned out to be worth it - I've found a 4th cousin who has provided me with a near enough complete tree where I previously had only blanks.
On another note, I have found 4 6th cousins from the ancestry mailing list, one of whom I will be meeting for a beer or 2 next week, as she lives in the area where we're off on our hols.
With regard to ancestry, a lister had a trial subscription and posted the password etc. onto a miling list. I only found out on the last day. Not sure how legal that is though.... But as most of my research is in areas not fully covered by ancestry, I'll wait a bit and see.

I signed up to ancestry.co.uk last night. It was something I said I wouldn't do as I thought it was too expensive. However, I have to tell you, within 3 hours I had solved two brickwalls (admittedly not huge ones, but nonetheless they have duped me since the beginning of my research.)
Therefore I recomend it.

Amy, How does the subscription work? I haven't quite figured it out is it a certain sum per quarter per Census, or per List (ie Passenger lists) or per Parish Register, or does one sum do it all? Thanks Newbi
