1861 census at ancestry.com - is it all there?
« on: Monday 02 May 05 02:25 BST (UK) »

Hi All,

I am having a terrible time trying to locate my John & Emma BRETTELL in the 1861 census.
They are not in the surname index.  I have been trying to locate them by street address.
In 1861 I know they were in Oakley Street in January (marriage) and Mitre Street in December (birth).

Mitre Street (in the 1861 lambeth Street Index) is in the following pieces:
Mitre Street, Webber Street Part 7-12 Part RG9 366 Folio 112
Mitre Street Webber Street Numbers 23 - 42 RG9 366 Folios 83 – 88
I am able to locate folios 83 - 88 of RG9/366 on ancestry.com but folio 112 is NOT THERE.
Does SKS have access to it please and would you be kind enough to do a lookup for me?

Also, Susannah Brettell was in John Street Cornwall Road in 1862 (when she died)
I can't locate her either.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I had a look at the 1861 census, unfortunately I couldn't find your people, but I did notice that at the bottom of the enquiry page, where you put the reg/folio numbers, it had 'RG10' instead of 'RG9'.  I checked a couple of times to make sure I had the right census.  Perhaps this is why it's not finding them where you expect.

You also sometimes find that not all the pages are actually indexed.

Looking at the county underneath sometimes when you click on that there are tons of areas that you can browse through.

I was lucky enough to find one like that. Smiley

Having looked at my street index for 1861 London it states that nos 7-12 are on Fol 110,
(and that the remaining numbers for that street are missing from ED10).
