If anyone is researching the following names in the Ebbesbourne Wake area I'd love to hear from you.
Shepherd, Crowter/Clouter, Bath, Moxham
I have just discovered that my 2nd great grandmother, Elizabeth Clouter born circa 1808 Britford, married 4 times. All the gentlemen lived in Ebbesbourne.
It's a fairly small village and according to the 1841 census I'm related to half the population.

Dave,
I received all your information and I'm turning cartwheels here
I can't believe how much you found for me and don't know how to thank you. It's so good to have all the confusing relationships, that I suspected, confirmed.
Being so far away I have no access to parish records and I'm just stunned by your kindness. It must have taken ages to gather so much info.
I will contact you by PM.
Kind Regards Darcy

Hi Delighted to be of help. I know how difficult it is. I have problems with darkest Wales and I need to visit Record Offices there, and that's only 150 miles away! I shall be researching the early goings on of my clan in N. Wilts next week. If you wish I can see if I can find Elizabeth's baptism - unless you know already. Yesterday looking through 18th century baptism records for Lyneham Parish (N. Wilts) there was one poor little soul with the comment 'she was found hanging in a tree'. Not all was sweetness and light in 'the good old days. Cheers Dave

Dave, that's so sad about the hanging They certainly didn't have an easy life back then.
It would be great if you could find Elizabeth's baptism. She has been a mystery for so long but thanks to you I'm beginniing to know her
Your help is very much appreciated.
Regards Darcy

Hi Darcy, I guess I'm not too clear. The baby was found in the tree ALIVE. Sad about being abandoned. Did you know in the 18th century everyone, BY LAW, had to be buried clothed in WOOL and nothing else (apart from a coffin)? The vicar had to certify that it had been done. Only found this out 2 days ago. Cheers Dave

Dave,
I'm so glad that I misunderstood about the baby. I always feel so sad when I find a death - even if it took place a couple of hundred years ago.
Actually, I did know about the burial in wool. I came across a reference to this and read a bit about it. Genealogy is an education as well as a very enjoyable hobby. If I was back at school I would get top marks for geography

Dave,
I have just recieved the information from the Britford Parish Registers. Once again I am amazed at how much you have managed to find. I never thought that I would ever get so far back with this particular line. Many, many, thanks.

What are your Moxham connectons? Mine (Ebbesbourne Wake and the adjoining villages of Alvdiston and Broad Chalk) go back to the 1600s. Roy G
