Confusion over name
« on: Saturday 27 August 11 15:44 BST (UK) »

My grt grt grandfather, was born in 1869 in Kentish Town, London, but I'm not sure under what name.

He married Maria Holmesin Kensington, in July 1908 under the name Thomas James Olley .

On his daughter Winifred's birth certificate, in 1897, his name is James Olley.

On Winifred's marriage certificate, in 1914, his name is Thomas Olley.

1901 census has him listed as James Olley.

1911 census has him listed as James Olley.

Also, I have recently been given a copy of Winifred's husbands autobiography, he mentioned that Winifred's father had died sometime before they were married, suggesting he died sometime after the 1911 census were taken and before 1914.

Does anyone have any ideas of what action I should take into finding his birth, death and other census's?

When and where did he die and who does he name as the witnesses to his 1908 marriage?

I note that Winifred was born long before the 1908 marriage - is her mother named on the Birth certicate as Olley, or a previous name?
