Ooooooohhh! Well spotted Fencewolf

I'll see what I can dig up but for now I found on the W-ton Archives a baptism  of a John 11.6.1838 and William 22.3.1840 sons of Joseph and Mary Meers

I think I have found them on the 1851 down as Murs (though it looks like Meers)

Joseph was born c1809 Kirby Salop - could he be a brother?

I also found the burial St Peters 14 Sep1840 Elizah MEYER aged 2 Walsall Street

I'll let you know what else I find

Hi Willow

What Knights are you chasing in Glos?
It doesn't happen to be a George Knight (1802-?), bap Ruardean, marr Sarah Pritchard 1827, does it?
He is an ancestor of my daughter in law.

Fencewolf x

Forgot to say yes this George is in my tree he shares GGGrandfathers with one of my direct line. If you look on my website we have the family back to around 1580 - you will have to let me have your daughter in laws details and see if she wants to drop me a line

Hi Willow

Apparently it was fairly common in the 17/18/19th century for families to do a moonlight flit because of debts then start again with a new name elsewhere. Is that what happened to our lot, I wonder?

However, what are we looking for now? Death of George Williams? Baptisms of James and Ellen Williams? Or if the Williams is just an enumerator error, are we no further forward? W'ton records, I suppose - they aren't on line for the required period, are they? At least we have an addres for 1841!

I have all the records for da-in-law's family and will look at your Knight tree when I have time. Thanks!

Forgor to say thankyou for the Joseph Meers and Elizah info. Salop archives is shut for refurbishment at present, but we could do with a trip when it reopens. You never know!

Hi Willow

It's me again. I reckon the Joseph M's birth will be Ketley (now in Telford)

Hi

Joseph M & family are easy to find in Walsall in 1861, and deaths of Joseph and Mary in Walsall in 1867, 1864 respectively.

But I can't read the birthplace of Joseph in 61. It looks like Ray Field, which I can't identify.

Hiya guys!

Hope you are keeping well. I have been contacted by a descendant of Selina via Tribalpages so I have asked her to drop us a post on here too. I have sent her an e-mail so will await the reply - fingers crossed!

Also whilst doing a search on FreeREG I found the following

baptism 26.12.1846 St Peters Emily Maers dau of George (miner) and Elizabeth of Salop Street

So we now have another child and a narrower date of death for George  Grin

Emily buried 14.10.1847 St Peters - address given as Townwell Fold

And even more interesting is a baptism of George Mayors 19.2.1832 St Peters parents John (miner) and Ann - perhaps another of our Georges brothers?

Hi Willow

Thanks for that; it all helps a bit.
Unfortunately, I can't find Emily's birth record, nor yet George's death in the now limited period. I might send for the Emily death cert just in case it helps.
We are coming to the midlands next Wed so may try one of the Record Offices. Do you know where the St Peters burials for the 1846-50 period are. Unless I'm being dim they aren't in Stafford or Wton.

In sheer desperation I have been looking through the BMD index of deaths and found the following

George Mares 1847 West Bromwich ref 18 394

Anyone got access to West Brom records to see if we can find more information?

Hi Willow

Went to Stafford this week, and found the following
Eliza Mayers bap 28 Apr 1839 W'ton St Peters. Father George, miner ---which figures.

Also George Mares bur Wednesbury 20 Aug 1847, age 45 (obviously the W Brom registration). On the same page are several men "killed in coal pit". That's promising, so I've sent for the cert.

Hiya Fencewolf

Well done! I think  it looks very promising that it might be the right one. I have sent for the certificate too so hopefully it might finally give us an answer as to what happened to him and if it is it gives an age for him to perhaps search further
