Hiya Fencewolf

I usually use the soundex option but I think I will have to resort to the wildcard search more often

Hiya Fencewolf

Wolverhampton Archives have put a load of stuff on line at www.wolverhamptonhistory.org.uk/resources/familyhistory

Jemima Mears was buried 22.7.1860 at St Marks - she died of consumption but I havent found the elusive George yet

Jemima was buried Merridale Cemetery not St Lukes (going x eyed reading these!) and she was from St Marks parish

Also there is a burial of twins Mary and Joseph Meers on 17.4.1855 who lived 1 day after being born premature also from St Marks parish. I wonder if these are children of Jemima and James? they married 9.4.1855. Might send for the certificates

Hi Willow

Caution! The fact that there is no record of a burial at Merridale does not prove anything. I already knew at least 2 of mine whowere buried there and don't appear in the file.

Hiya Fencewolf

Yes I was beginning to suspect that as I am missing several burials that logically would have been at Merridale

Hopefully it will get updated in the future but I'm going to try and make the time to get over there and check them out anyway

Hi Willow

I assume no Mears news?
I have a tiny bit, though it gets us no further.
I got the birth certificate of Eliza Mars
b 19 Apr 1839 Bilston St Wton
father George Mars Labourer
Mother Elizabeth Mars formerly Ones (misprint for Owen presumably)

This is right I think, but all we get is an address (which I can't find them at in 1841), and the fact that Geo doesn't seem to be deceased (but I can't find a death pre Elizabeth's remarriage)

Any ideas?

Hiya Fencewolf

I've searched the Wolverhampton archives site for burials of people of Bilston Street in the H - P section but theres nothing that fits

Logically he would have been buried St Georges because I think St Peters stopped burials around 1837

I will keep looking

George was elusive eh?

Bear in mind, that although Elizabeth remarried claiming to be widowed, there is always the possibility that George hadn't died if we can't find a record of it.

Perhaps they had a 'falling out' and he moved on elsewhere?

Or maybe it's all down to a spelling error cos they seem to have been recorded under all sorts of spellings so far.

*edit to add* Willow, you might also be interested to know I now have a Hilton ancestor. My 5x great grandmother was a Mary Hilton who married Stephen Law (I think was at St Peter's w-ton, have to check notes) But were Roman Catholic and lived in Sedgley where the Law family was from. Perhaps somewhere we are related twice over!

Hiya Rachel

Yes I'm coming to the conclusion that George 'did a runner' or maybe died out of the area

It frustrating we cant find them on the 41 census to confirm who was there and who wasn't. I've been through all the Georges who died between 1839 and 1849 on FreeBMD and there isn't a name that even comes close

I haven't found a Law/Hilton marriage or any Roman Catholics yet Rachel but I will keep my eyes open. Wouldn't it be strange if we were doubly related   Cheesy

Hi Willow

What Knights are you chasing in Glos?
It doesn't happen to be a George Knight (1802-?), bap Ruardean, marr Sarah Pritchard 1827, does it?
He is an ancestor of my daughter in law.

Hiya Fencewolf

I haven't come across that one but try the Forest of Dean site - they are transcribing all the parish records http://www.forest-of-dean.net/ including Ruardean and its free to register. My Knights all come from Newent/Momouth area

My website is http://hiltonfamilytree.tribalpages.com/ if you want to check them out

Hi Willow

This subject is called Mears mess, yeah?

Well how about this for a mess? Just found!

Fryers Yard, Railway Street, W'ton 1841 census
George Williams      30 Coal Miner   No
Elizabeth                 25                    No
James                        9                    No
Ellen                          6                    No
Salenor                     5                    No

That is just too much of a coincidence!!!!!!  But whatever does it mean?

Misprint?
Alias?
Ideas to Fencewolf!!! Is that why we can't find a death of G Meers?
Too late to think now!
