Charles Joseph Bound - Photographer
« on: Wednesday 09 September 09 11:24 UTC (UK) »

I am in possession of a family portrait (attached) which I believe dates from c.1900. The photographer is Charles Joseph Bound and the image was taken at his studios in Rollestone Road, Outwoods, nr. Burton Upon Trent. I have researched Charles Joseph Bound and found that he was born in Llansantffraed, Wales before moving (via Herefordshire) to Burton (where he is listed in the 1901 census as a photographer, aged 44).

I would like to know more about the person depicted in the image, who may be one of my great-grandmothers (Sarah Bamford? Harriett Roe?). My maternal family (Williamson / Bamford/ Hibbert / Roe) hails from the Burton area. On the back of the photograph are printed the words ''All Negatives Kept'' - but surely not for 100 years??! How might I find out more about the person in the photograph? Do Charles Joseph Bound's records exist anywhere?  Thanks

I can't help you out I'm afraid but I will be interested in reading any replies as I have about ten photos of unidentified family members and have often wondered if any of the photographers are still extant or whether the negs would have been preserved.

Realistically, there must be have been millions of negatives and few businesses can have lasted for a hundred years or more so the chance will probably be slim Sad

Thanks Paul,

I agree that this one is a long shot - the guys on the photographic section have been able to help, though, by narrowing down the date of the shot very accurately, because of the fashion being worn - amazing! (c.1890).

All the best, WC

Cheers WC, I ought to post mine too I suppose - I know which families they belong to (they're all from the same album) so accurate dates might help.
