Hughes Research
« on: Thursday 05 May 05 20:53 UTC (UK) »

My gggg grandfather (Richard Hughes abt 1788-1791) came from Ireland in 1819 to Canada with wife Anne (McQuaid) Hughes and son Thomas b. 1815.  Son Richard was born during the voyage.  That part of the family has been pretty well documented, but I need to locate the families in Ireland.  What I have found to date is a picture of Richard with the inscription "Richard Hughes son of Thomas Hughes and Sarah Brown".

Other pieced info is that Richard had brothers Joseph (Robert) and Anthony that both married into the Bourne family in 1815-1819 at Castleconor, Sligo. Ireland.

I would love to find out if these connections are correct, can anyone help?

Hi Hughesdc

Sorry we haven't been able to help you so far on this one.

Have you had a look at all the usual general resources I tend to suggest?  Wink

You could also look at these Sligo specific sites which may help.

Perhaps you would like to have a look at these resources to see if there is anything that might help you.

Please come back with any further queries or to let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Hello hughesdc,

What denomination were your Hughes ancestors? You'll have to rely on Church records as they were born prior to the introduction of Civil Registration in Ireland. This happened in 1864. The marriages of Non Catholic were registered from 1845 onwards.
