Anne Marie,i think your William Darrie and my Thomas Darrie were brothers,i think its so hard to find them because maybe they were born over the English side of the border and we are looking in the place. It just seems a coincidence that my Thomas and your William were both born late 1700s we cant trace their births or marriages,i think its strange.I havent tried Scotlands People but i will at the weekend when i am not working and i will let you know what happens.Anne.

Hi Anne It certainly does look as if this is my Cockburn family - thank you. I will see what I can find on William and Thomas Darrie when I get a chance - I think there is a very good chance they are brothers. Will let you know if I have any joy

Hi AnneMarie,i have no good news for you i wish i had.I did a search for Births marriages and Deaths of both your William and my Thomas and found nothing.I did find the births of William and Nellys children but because they are the old parish records there was no image for them.I dont know where to look next that was my last hope,i even wonderd if they might be Irish but i should have found their marriage or at least their deaths,i tried all variations of the name Darrie but still nothing.I dont know what to do next.Anne.

Hi Anne I think we're both in the same boat here, as I have run out of ideas as well! I will keep hunting and I'm certain we will find them eventually - its taken me over a year to get this far!! If I come across any further information I will let you know and thanks for all the info you've passed on to me.

I am new to this site so wonder if I am duplicating another message or whatever. I wonder if any of my contacts have records on Duns gravestones:
Greetings.
I have been researching my wife’s family, some of whom come from the Duns area:
I wonder if anyone else is working on the same families and has information on either the earlier generations or local descendants.
Hugh Rose, probably married to Catharine Davidson b 12.2.1750/51, father of George Rose, born 1796 in Duns. George Rose married Mary Cockburn b 1798, Duns.
Catharine Davidson’s parents may have been Thomas Davidson b 1722 Duns and Jane Williams, b 1726, Duns.
Mary Cockburn’s parents may have been William Cockburn and Catharine Bryce, the latter b 1768 in Duns, married 18 Dec 1797.
Robert Donaldson b 1768 in Duns, whose parents may have been James Donaldson and Helen Ford. Robert Donaldson may have married Magdalen Paterson. Robert’s son James may have married Margaret Brown
I am also tying to trace a Thomas Wight who was born in Bowden 15 Nov 1788.
Many thanks for any help
Marcus McCullough
