I am trying to find out any information about a lady called Mercedes Tiber. Some years ago I was given a photo album that my aunt rescued from a nursing home, it was to be disposed of, as the owner had died some years previous. My aunt gave me the album as she considered it too nice to be placed on the bonfire. The album showed pictures from the First World War and just after, and was the record of a young VAD nurse from Kent. The young nurse in question was called, Mercedes Isabel Tiber and she was born in 1899. I have studied the album on many occasions and still do not know which one of the nurses is Mercedes. I should like to find out more about her and wondered if any of the readers would be able to help. I think she moved to Southsea in the 20’s (possibly Victoria Grove, then Outram Rd). She was still living in Southsea in 1976 and died in 1988 at West Meon. The album contains 236 photographs, mainly of Kent, but there are some of Southsea, Chichester and Gosport and some from the Dockyard. If you have any information or anyone who remembers her please get in touch.
Have just had a look on FreeBMD. NO sign of anyone with a surname Tiber being born in Kent back to 1870. No Marriage with that name between 1892 and 1903. I also tried Sussex with the same result.
It seems to be an ongoing project so the site owner will probably be pleased to hear from you.
Cheers, Steph.

To Steph, thanks for the info but The lady who runs the Kent VAD site (Hazel Juroch) borrowed my book for two years. She drew a blank too.
To Salty, thanks for the look up, now I am wondering if she was born in Hampshire, moved to Kent to become a VAD nurse and then moved back after the war. Or maybe she was born abroad.
Thanks again, I really do appreciate both of your kind replies.
This looks like her, but if West Meon is in Petersfield you have this already:
MERCEDES ISABEL TIBER Death Apr/88 Aged 88 Born 22 JUN 1899 Petersfield Volume 20 Page 481
And this is a recent birth but the name may have been passed down:
Mercedes L Tobiere Mother's Maiden Surname - Tobiere Registration date - May 1990 Islington Volume number 13 Page number 1828
Might be worth a look in the London phone book?
I believe Mercedes is a common name in Spain/Hispanic countries so she may not have been born in the UK, or married here come to that; perhaps she came over with Mr Tiber during the war.
Keep looking, she'll turn up.
Steph.
