I am trying to find out something about an Albert Milliner who emigrated to Canada. I am unsure exactly when. We know that he was still in the UK in 1911 as we have a photo of him at a wedding that year. Family 'rumour' is that he went after WW1, but we don't know for certain.
We also don't really know where he went to. What are the possibilities? The only thing we have is a photograph of him taken in a Toronto studio. Whether this was taken soon after or a few years after he arrived we don't know?
Has anyone got any ideas where I can go from here?
finding some one after about 1920 becomes harder because most of those records are still private. Do you know when Albert Milliner was born and did he have family in Canada that he may have come to stay with or near?
Here are some possibles
from this site http://www.ellisisland.org/ you can find an Albert Milliner who is working on passenger ships from Liverpool to other ports. You will need to register to see the actual ship register but it is free to use.
Here are some Milliners buried in Ontario. Are any of them possible family members?

If you think he was in Toronto you can try finding him in the Henderson City Directories (like phone books but they started in the late 1800's and carried forward into the 1980's). The Toronto city library may be able to help you or you may be able to find help on this site - http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.canada
You can post a message and see if anyone can help you. There are also mailing lists you can join at this site
Hi Thelma Thanks for that. I will investigate some of the sites you mentioned.
Albert was born in 1884. As far as we are aware there was no family for him to go to. We assume that he just went in search of a better life. He make of course have married out there and had a family, but we don't know.
Anyway, thanks again and as I say I will investigate those sites.
