Hi does any kind person have access to the 1861 and/or 1871 census of Cumbernauld, Dumbartonshire. I am looking for a William who could come under any of the following or any variation Gegan Gagan Geoghagan Gogan Geoghan Googan Geagan Gaughan anything similar considered. He should be unmarried and probably a quarrier, probably living with another family. In the 81 census he is living in The Wynd. Any help very very gratefully received.
Thanks Lesley

I can't help with your lookup, but I thought you would be interested to learn that my ancestors were near neighbours to yours! I am researching my Smith family, who were also in the Wynd in1871 and 1881. I have (hopefully) attached a couple of pictures of the Wynd as it is now for you.
Hi Anne, thanks for the photos. Pictures always help bring history to life. I managed to find an old pic of the Wynd and it doesn't seem to have changed that much. I intended to attach it here but I seem to have lost it!!! Will try and find again and post later. Good luck with your own research. Lesley

Got the picture, thanks. I wonder what year it was taken. Going by the children's outfits I'm guessing early 1900s. What do you think? Fascinating to think one of those children might be an ancestor, don't you think?
