AT SPES INFRACTA

Can anyone tell me if there is a way of tracing a birth of Francis Schamburg born Memel Prussia 1821 His father was Frederick Schamburg in 1845 Frederick was a soldier. Where would he be serving as a soldier at that time.

Memel is now called Kleipeda and is in Lithuania (lovely place by the way, I was there 2 years ago for the 750 years celebration). It was then East Prussia.
Anway, as far as I can tell, there was no war in 1845, the nearest one was the Danish War over Schleswig in 1848.
There were however several demonstrations from the 1830s onwards demanding more freedom for the people. I dare say that the military was called in to police these demos - so in 1845 he could have been anywhere in Prussia.
There doesn't appear to be anything of particular military interest in Prussia around 45.
If I remember rightly, there is a Prussian museum near Berlin - I'm sure BerlinBob will correct me on that one - it might be worth while mailing them. Its in Wüstrau, near Fehrbellin

As yet found no Scally Williams' in my tree - they either stayed in Wales or emigrated to USA.
I do however have a Caldwell and a Molineux from Liverpool - St. Chads area, if thats any help.
