My ggranddad John Cole from Blakenham, Suffolk arrived Lyttelton with family Jan. 1859; traded as miller; died Christchurch area July 1879. Any news of successors thereafter would be fab.  pipswilkins

The NZ Society of Genealogists http://www.genealogy.org.nz/ have three on-line databases which might help you.

It might also be worth placing your enquiry in their magazine in the Information Wanted columns.

It's a small world.  I am a descendant of Jessie Cole, a daughter of John Cole, who came out here to NZ in 1856 on the 'Egmont' as a sixteen year old. Send me a personal message with your email address and we can swap info.
