JACKSON family 1870's
« on: Wednesday 11 May 05 21:18 UTC (UK) »

Hello List,

I am researching my JACKSON family and wondering if there are any further clues to their whereabouts and occupations.

Arthur JACKSON married Mary Jane DAVIES in 1854, Pembrokeshire, Wales.

They had 2-3 children there and then according to IGI,

John Cathcart JACKSON b 1870 -Antrim
Edith Kate      JACKSON b 1872- Antrim
Caroline Marjery JACKSON b 1873 - Belfast area No.4, Antrim
Alfred Arthur       JACKSON b 1878 Antrim

It is possible Mary Jane's sister was living with them in 1881 - her name was Ann Elizabeth DAVIES b 1842, Milford haven ( Steynton ) Pembrokeshire

Mary Jane JACKSON died back in PEM in 1891, and Caroline JACKSON was living in Steynton with her Aunt, Charlotte SAIES in 1901.

I don't know where or when Arthur JACKSON was born- or what happened to the other children

I would appreciate any help at all in locating this family in Antrim.

Thanks kindly
Jocelyn

Hello Jocelyn,

I had a look at the Jackson surname on http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php  This shows the surname in Co.Antrim when Griffiths Valuation was conducted in the county 1861-1862. There are a few in areas where you would expect to find farmers. Something in my bones tells me there may have been some seafarers among your ancestors. A great many Jacksons lived in areas of Antrim near to the sea and Pembroke is also near the sea.
There was an Arthur Jackson at Dunadry in the Grange of Nilteen Parish. There are several Johns on the list. Three of them come from the Parish of Shankill in Belfast
