interesting info from each of your replies, which leads me to this question.....
"Please could you tell me if there was any probate/will recorded for Samuel Hickmott.
I have noted a Samuel Hickmott that may fit the bill, having died in Lewisham jfm 1864 1d 663.

Hi

On the 1861 census Samuel was lodging in Lewisham. His occupation was a labourer. Less likely therefore that he would make a will. There is nothing showing in his name on the national probate index.
