This popular tourist site now has an excellent web site which amongst other things lists details of former prisoners sent for transportation
http://www.inverarayjail.co.uk/Former_prisoners/all-trans.asp

Moderator Comment: Link reported broken, the directory has been renamed:

What a wonderful site.
Such insight, to the past, life was just like ours, when you read the trials.

Cowal is the name given to the peninsula where Dunoon is situated. Dunoon is only 11 miles from Inverary

Hi all Cowalites, or those with aspirations,
As far as I can see, and of course, not wishing to pick nits etc., but on my map, it´s 23 miles from Dunoon to Inveraray as the proverbial crow flies, but 39 if you are so unfortunate as to have to use the road.

Awraverribest,

Thrall

Sorry Falkyrn, no disrespect intended, please pull me up if I´m wrong. Keep on posting. Th.
