Hi cookiecrisp,

This may not help much, but you never know ....

I don't know Portsmouth, but I tried "sultan road" portsmouth parish in Google, which gave me this site:
http://www.knightroots.co.uk/transcriptions/Parishes_P/Portsea_Portsmouth_Southsea/Marriages/marriages.htm

There are a lot of marriages here from Sultan Road, mainly from St. Mary's Portsmouth (CHU3)

Have a look, if they got married, while living in Sultan Road, maybe you might even find your great grandparents here !!

Hi cookiecrisp,

I've had a look at my late 19th century map of Portsmouth.  Sultan Road is quite a long road (and is now in two different postcode areas).  The western end of Sultan Road would almost certainly be in All Saints Parish at that time.  The eastern end could easily be in St. Mary's.

Can I suggest that you e-mail/telephone either Hampshire Record Office (email enquiries.archives@hants.gov.uk tel 01962 846154/846148) or Portsmouth Record Office (searchroom@portsmouthcc.gov.uk tel: 023 9282 7261) and ask them if they can tell you.  They have a wonderful map of Portsmouth where the parish boundaries are overlaid on a road map.

Nell
