NOBLE, Charles Rider
« on: Friday 24 February 12 04:29 GMT (UK) »
Charles Rider NOBLE was a theatre manager in Northampton as well as an early cameraman.
He was born in Roydon, Essex in 1854 (exact date unknown), son of Richard G. Noble, age 47 and Eliza Jessie Noble (nee Rider) age 31.
He died 6 July or 27 July 1914 in Upminster, Essex, aged 60.
Can anyone supply any more information about him, including such details as name of his grandparents?

I am researching people who worked in the early film industry, from the 1890s to about 1920.

Looks like a juicy one from info on a public tree on Ancestry:

Eliza had already married John Edward CUNNINGTON in 1849. He was sent to prison in 1850. She was believed to have met Richard NOBLE in 1853 and divorced CUNNINGTON in 1859. He had discovered the birth of Charles and sued on grounds of adultery.

Eliza's parents are claimed to be William Mills RIDER and Mary Ann PANTON.

Charles' birth registered as Charles Noble ASHTON June qtr 1854 Epping, Essex

1851 census shows Richard G NOBLE as a single man, alone at the Roydon address.
1841 has him at Woodford with Mary NOBLE aged 55 and Henry NOBLE aged 25.

1851 census shows Mary A NOBLE born 1786 London as step-mother to George R NOBLE. He is listed with his wife Sarah and 2 sons.

1861 shows Mary A NOBLE as a visitor to the home of George and Sarah.

Backtracking to 1841 and George is at Woodford with Sarah and 2 children.

Mary A RIDER (nee PANTON), the mother of Eliza is with Eliza and Richard plus their 4 children in 1861 at Roydon.

Thank you very much for this great information. Sorry for the duplicate post. I wasn't sure who would see this if only under Essex.
